This is a 1959 Mono copy of the Cy Touff album Touff Assignment. Even though he spent most of his life in my home base of Chicago, Cy is most known as one of the large pioneers of west coast jazz. And if that wasn’t good enough, he is one of the very few jazz musicians known as a bass trumpeter. And I must confess, even though I myself am a former trumpeter, I had no idea such a thing existed. But boy does he make it work, on tracks like Tough Touff and Soulsville, that really make me wonder just what I’ve been missing out on this whole time.
