He was born and raised in Minnesota, earning his bachelors at the University of Minnesota in 1976. He was ordained by the Jewish Theological Seminary in 1981. He is a Long Island rabbi living in Westchester, New York. He was honored to preside as president of the international Rabbinical Assembly from 2004–2006. He is the author of “A full-Figured Faith.” He is married to Ellen Joan Rank, a Jewish educational consultant, author, and editor. He is a proud Abba (father) and Sabba (grandfather), loves to barbecue, feed birds and squirrels, and each summer tend to his vegetable garden.
